Junie B. Jones Is Definitely My Favorite

I absolutely L.O.V.E. reading these books to my class! They love her mischief and I love their giggles! It is fun to watch boys and girls alike, take interest in her life! They can relate to her and love finding out what she is onto next! Find out why Junie B. Jones is definitely my favorite for second grade!

Age For Junie B. Jones Books

Barbara Park’s #1 New York Times bestselling chapter book series, Junie B. Jones, is perfect for 7-8-year-olds. They are always a crowd-pleaser! I was shocked the first year I started reading her books aloud to my second graders and the students hung on her every word! I love reading near dismissal because it calms them when it is otherwise a chaotic time.

When I created the units, I wanted to include as many options as possible. Some years I am able to use the majority of the packet and then there are other years when the group is too low to complete most of it. I love having options and using some of the handouts for morning work or for small group reading activities.

Text Features

Text features need to be reviewed all throughout the year. I have created this printable that makes reviewing so easy! For Junie B. Jones Is Captain Field Day, I created a review page covering the thing you do on Field Day. The students love reading them and I love the review it gives. For Junie B. Jones and the Stupid Smelly Bus, I created a review page about rules for riding the school bus. It is so easy to multitask using these handouts!

Order of Junie B. Jones Books

Fortunately the order you read the books really does not matter. They do not have to be read in order. The age group for Junie B. Jones books is definitely in that second-grade range! 7-8 years old love reading about her schemes and LOVE reading chapter books. Reading a chapter book is such a big deal at this age!

Author of Junie B. Jones

It makes me sad that Barbara Parks died at the age of 66. She was so incredible talented. Just for kicks, I looked up how many Junie B. Jones books are in the series… there are 28! That is more than enough to keep your kiddos engaged! Our library had the majority of them. I liked to buy 5-6 for the same one from Scholastic when they ran them on sale and use them for small group reading.

Quotes from Junie B. Jones

One of my favorite is her opening line, (You must read it with SASS…), “My name is Junie B. Jones. The B stands for Beatrice. Except I don’t like Beatrice. I just like B and that’s all.” Pretty much that is her in a nutshell! Your student will love her books, they may also love Fly Guy and Fancy Nancy! Check out those posts for more options!
