Irregular Plural Nouns Lesson Plans

Irregular plural nouns lesson plans are not easy to find. So, actually what is the definition of irregular plural nouns? Irregular plural nouns are nouns that do not become plural by adding -s or -es.  What happens when you write the word ELF on the board and ask second graders how to make the word plural?  Simple, they reply… add “s.”

Irregular Plural Nouns Lesson Plans 2nd Grade

Regular plural nouns end with “s” but irregular plural nouns have different endings.  The English language is so hard to teach because we have so many rules… and we even have rules that dictate when not to follow the rules! ?

I quickly knew this was going to be more than a mini-lesson or two for my second graders.  We ended up spending an entire week on irregular plural nouns and still review them throughout the year.

Teaching with FUN Activities

I made an irregular plural nouns unit to support the students with fun activities and even incorporated writing into the lessons.  Students must have practice using these irregular plural nouns in order to help them memorize their irregular spellings.

This unit is organized by days with minilessons included.  I have included 5 lesson plans that can easily be modified for your classroom. There are some activities that can be assigned for morning work or during small groups depending on the group.  I try to incorporate writing as often as possible.

Printables and Worksheet for Irregular Plural Nouns?

I have included multiple practice pages and activities to use throughout the week or longer. Some years they catch on and others it takes forever!!!

Practice, practice, practice! Keep urging your students to use them in their writing!
