Finding My Own Space

In June of 2018 we moved from Georgia to South Carolina. We sold our family home of 13 years and downsized into a more manageable 1970’s ranch. I fell in love with this house the minute I saw it!  All of the bathrooms and kitchen had already been remodeled and all it needed was a fresh coat of paint.
Fast forward to January 2020, Chris and I attended a marriage retreat in Savannah and it “came out” during one of the sessions that I did not have a “space” to call my own in this house. We started talking about the children each having a bedroom, but was that really necessary? Our son was still living with us at the time, but had plans on moving out. So we quickly decided we only needed two “guest” bedrooms. I quickly started mapping out my new room in my head and before we were home the pictures were hung in my mind.
We moved one of the beds into the other room until our son moved out and moved my big desk and blue rug into the big open room. We took down the old shutters that were from the previous owner and replaced with new shades. I throughly enjoyed the room for an entire month before the girls returned home in March for the Pandemic – Covid19.  So I did what any good mother would do… the desk came out.  So once AGAIN we set the bed back up to make three bedrooms  the children.

I absolutely treasure all of the time we spent together as a family during the beginning of quarantine!  I never thought I would have us all together for more than five days ever again.

Then in June, everyone had moved out including my son, and I have an office once again.

Treasured Space

I tell this long story to explain that we all need our space. Not everyone needs an office with a desk, but I think everyone needs a home base! I do so many different things in my new office.

“I absolutely treasure all of the time we spent together as a family during the beginning of quarantine!”
My NEW Office

  • I have my quiet time in there with all of my books and Bible in one spot.
  • I have a file drawer that everyone has a folder for all those random pieces of paper I am suppose to keep up with as the mom.
  • I made a stationery basket and love having choices now when I send a note card.
  • I have thoroughly enjoyed having all of my wrapping paper and ribbons in one spot!

I love being able to put my hand on something at a moments notice in my space!  I originally placed the desk and bookshelf in the center of the room, but I have since moved it to the side to make room for my next adventure… a Peloton. I can’t wait to share how that is going!
