What are the best books to compare and contrast stories for second graders? Students must be able to analyze a fiction story in order to master this standard (RL.2.9: compare and contrast two or more versions of the same story).
Stories for Compare and Contrast
Students need to be able to demonstrate why the author used specific ideas, word choices, or writing structures to convey his or her message. Learning how to analyze the text is easier when to begin doing when the story is familiar.
Comparing Stories
I always used a different version of The Three Little Pigs to help teach this standard. I used multiple versions, but really any version you have on hand will do! I used The Three Little Pigs by Paul Galdone, or the version by James Marshall (both are the regular version of the story). I love using, The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by Jon Scieszka. This is always a favorite for the children. Another favorite is The Three Ninja Pigs by Corey Rosen Schwartz.
Comparing and Contrasting Activities
Again, You cannot go wrong with so many different versions out there.
I have many reading units that would be perfect for Second Grade.
