Pick Me Up

I met with my Bible Study group last night and the common theme was we are all LONELY.  Some of us have returned to work, while others are still furloughed or simply not working at this time.

The days are long during this Pandemic and the TV is worthless.  We agreed that we all need to unplug daily and fill ourselves with the Word – The Bible.  There is so much hate and false news it is really hard to take anything in.  We are starting a study and we will meet every other Monday night.  But many of us are also going to start SOAPing.  Have you heard of this?

When we read scripture often we merely take it in.  But when we slow down and interact with the passage, the Word comes alive and meaningful.  Each letter in “SOAP” stands for one step of the process: ScriptureObservationApplication, and Prayer.   You will need a journal to record your SOAPING.

S – SCRIPTURE: read a passage of scripture. Then, pick out a particular verse – or group of verses – that is especially meaningful . Then write that verse at the top of the journal page.

O – OBSERVATION: what do you see in the verses that you’re reading? Who is the audience? Is there a repetition of words? What words stand out to you?

A – APPLICATION:  Apply God’s Word to your life in a practical way. This is the part where you personalize your study of Scripture. As you read over the text, how does it apply to you? Is there a specific action you need to take or a confession you need to make?

P PRAYER: Pray God’s Word back to Him. If He has revealed something to you during this time in His Word, pray about it.

The most important part, is your interaction with God.  Let Him speak to you.  Later in the day when something happens and you recall a piece of scripture and can apply it to your situation, that is the Holy Spirit communicating with you!  That is how you receive a Word from God.  You have HIS words inside of you (your mind) so He can bring them back to mind when needed!!!
